Constructing Excellence Awards

Green Building Store is delighted to have won The Legacy Award – Sustainability at this year’s Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber Awards 2014

Green Building Store is delighted to have won The Legacy Award – Sustainability at this year’s Constructing Excellence Yorkshire & Humber Awards 2014: for its Cre8 Barn, Stirley Community Farm retrofit project for Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

The pioneering low energy refurbishment has transformed a derelict cow barn into an eco-exemplar educational centre and space. The project has been designed to the exacting EnerPHit standard (a variation of the low energy Passivhaus standard, specifically designed for retrofits). A super-insulated  timber frame structure was built inside the existing stone barn building, preserving the outward appearance of the barn, whilst ensuring high levels of airtightness and continuous insulation. The timber frame structure has the additional advantage of supporting and shoring up the original stone building.

The Awards were announced on Friday 18th July 2014 at a ceremony at Sheffield City Hall and all winners are entered into National Constructing Excellence Awards on Friday 14th November in London.

It is fantastic that the the Cre8 Barn project has received recognition in this way. The project has demonstrated innovative solutions to the challenges of bringing older buildings up to 21st century energy efficiency levels. We applaud our clients Yorkshire Wildlife Trust for their vision and foresight in embracing the Passivhaus ‘fabric first’ approach to low energy building
